National Cardiovascular Research Institute

The National Cardiovascular Research Institute is the winning entry in the institute's establishment project, architecturally embodying the role of a research institute that shares knowledge and space. The design plans three core facilities — an animal testing laboratory, a human biospecimen storage facility, and general research facilities — each with a clearly defined zone and a research environment of high reliability. Rather than functioning as mere circulation space, the shared areas are configured as an open platform (Public Lab) where researchers, industry, and the local community meet. Through a structural and mechanical/electrical system that simultaneously supports organic communication among researchers and the strict separation of secure spaces, the design establishes a research environment that balances sharing and security.
